Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spiking Out Against Domestic Violence Sand Volleyball Tournament and the Stuff The Trunk event. Your donations will help us continue our support of local shelters helping survivors of violence.
Thank you so much for the generous donations to our shelter. Without the support from people like you, it would not be possible to do the work we do for others.
Over the years I reflect on the towels and the washcloths handed to me that day ... what a far reaching affect they would have in the life of someone struggling to overcome domestic violence ... I knew that I had support and hope for the first time in a long time
. Domestic Violence is an ongoing and increasing problem not only in Omaha but throughout the world. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
SODV is a non-profit organization supporting Domestic Violence Survivor partners.
Our goal is to raise funding and awareness for domestic violence shelters and survivors in the Omaha area. The money raised goes toward purchasing necessities for survivors from those whom are fleeing to those whom are starting a new, safe journey. SODV partners with local agencies to identify the needs of shelters, survivors and children.
In 2016, a group of women discussed the need for funding necessities for domestic violence survivors and their children. After brainstorming ways to raise money and awareness for the survivors in the Omaha community, a volleyball fundraiser was started. In 2016, the first volleyball tournament was held and has increased in the amount of awareness and funds it brings in yearly.
